Planting 2,000 trees in Gdańsk 25 March 2024

On 25 March 2024, another of our tree-planting campaigns took place in the Górki Zachodnie district of Gdańsk, this time in cooperation with the City of Gdańsk and with the support of GZDiZ. Despite the capricious spring weather – rain, wind and hail – we managed to plant as many as 2,000 oak trees, using containerised seedlings with a covered root system to increase their chances of survival.

Purpose of our Tree Planting Campaign

Our initiative aimed not only to increase the number of trees in Gdansk, but also to take care of urban ecosystems and biodiversity, which are key to maintaining harmony between people and nature. By focusing on planting trees, we aim to create a healthier environment.

Today’s cities face numerous challenges related to air pollution, loss of habitat for wildlife and declining biodiversity. Through our action, we wanted to respond effectively to these problems, working to restore the ecological balance in our local environment.

At the same time, an important element of our initiative was to educate the public about the importance of trees for environmental protection and biodiversity. We wanted to make the people of Gdansk aware of the role trees play in the urban ecosystem, as well as the need to protect and care for them. We wanted to inspire the community to take active measures to preserve nature and care for our common natural heritage.

Therefore, through our tree planting campaign, we have not only transformed the city’s landscape, but most importantly, we have built a community of conscious citizens ready to take on the challenge of protecting our natural environment for the benefit of future generations.

The importance of deciduous trees

Deciduous trees play a key role in urban ecosystems, not only improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, but also supporting biodiversity. They provide shelter and a source of food for many animal species, which contributes to biodiversity. Introducing more deciduous trees into the urban landscape can be an important step in protecting the ecosystem and maintaining harmony in nature.

Social integration and education

By taking part in our tree-planting event, those involved not only actively engaged in protecting the environment, but also participated in building social ties and the local community. It was a unique opportunity not only to work physically for the common good, but also to forge new relationships and create strong interpersonal bonds. Working together for the good of the environment fosters trust and strengthens the sense of community.

At the same time, our action provided an excellent educational platform for the public to better understand the nature of environmental protection and the role that trees play in maintaining ecological balance. Through direct participation in the tree planting process, participants were able to experience first-hand concrete actions that have a positive impact on the environment.

Date and location of the action

The action took place on 25 March between 1 and 4 pm in the Górki Zachodnie district of Gdansk. A detailed map of the location of the 2000 tree seedlings can be seen below.
