Cleaning up Gdansk’s green spaces with S&P Global on April 25, 2025
On April 25, 2025, Gdańsk became the site of another inspiring environmental initiative that proves real change begins with simple, collective action. This time, instead of planting trees, we grabbed gloves and trash bags to clean up neglected green spaces. The mission: to restore beauty, safety, and care to the urban environment.
30 employee volunteers from S&P Global took part in the cleanup, collecting over 100 bags of waste, including plastic, glass, old clothing, electronic waste, and bulky items.
Why Does Cleaning Matter?
In a world focused on climate action and sustainability, we mustn’t forget the impact of small, direct steps. Cleaning public spaces might seem ordinary, but it:
- restores beauty to neglected areas,
- reduces the risk of soil and groundwater contamination,
- protects animals from harmful waste,
- mobilizes local communities to care for shared spaces.
Such actions prove that CSR doesn’t have to be flashy to be powerful—just sincere, hands-on engagement.
30 People, One Goal
The volunteers from S&P Global demonstrated that corporate employees are not disconnected from everyday issues. United by purpose, they worked side by side to clean up the green areas of Gdańsk, motivated by care for the environment and a desire to give back.
For many, it wasn’t just an ecological action—it was also a chance to bond, step away from desks, and connect with the city they walk through every day. These experiences strengthen organizational culture and a sense of community.
Visible Impact, Valuable Lesson
In just a few hours, participants collected between 100 and 120 bags of trash. Most of it was plastic and glass, but also included clothing, e-waste, and discarded furniture. That’s hundreds of kilograms of waste that will no longer pollute the Baltic Sea or endanger wildlife—and a strong message to others: public space is everyone’s responsibility.
Small Steps, Big Change
This cleanup was part of a larger mission shared by the Foundation and its partners: to educate, engage, and work together for a better world. You don’t always need high-tech tools or major investments—sometimes a glove, a bag, and one free hour are enough to make a difference.
Thanks to the support of S&P Global, we showed that business can be a force for good—locally, step by step.
Thank you to everyone who took part! Together, we’re making Gdańsk—and the world—a better place. Let’s keep the momentum going!
