Creating a Flower Meadow and Insect House Workshops with Electrolux in Wołomin on May 8, 2025

On May 8, 2025, a unique environmental event took place in Wołomin, organized by the One More Tree Foundation in collaboration with Electrolux. As part of the initiative, participants created a flower meadow and took part in insect house building workshops. The initiative was part of the company’s broader environmental efforts, aimed not only at improving the natural environment but also at building awareness and engaging employees in caring for nature.

Thanks to the participants’ involvement, Wołomin’s green space was revitalized—benefiting both local nature and the community. This event offered a great opportunity to combine outdoor activity with practical environmental education, demonstrating that real impact can be made together—step by step, action by action.

Colorful Flower Meadow – Support for Pollinators and Urban Nature

Creating flower meadows is one of the most important actions for restoring natural habitats for pollinators. In Wołomin, event participants planted bulbous flowers by hand, which will provide early forage for insects in the coming seasons.

A flower meadow is much more than a pretty landscape feature. It’s a place teeming with life—attracting solitary bees, bumblebees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects that play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem balance. Moreover, meadow vegetation thrives in urban conditions: it’s more drought-resistant, requires less frequent mowing, and improves soil water retention. In this way, the meadow contributes to a more resilient and sustainable urban space.

Insect House Workshops – Education and Action Combined

After the fieldwork, participants joined workshops on building insect houses. Each person had the chance to build their own house from natural materials—wood, bamboo, reeds, pinecones, or bark—creating safe shelters for red mason bees, lacewings, ladybugs, and other beneficial insects.

During the workshops, participants learned why such structures are so essential today. There are fewer and fewer places in cities that provide suitable living conditions for pollinators—hollow trees, nooks, and natural crevices that once served as habitats are now rare. Insect houses help to fill this gap, offering space for overwintering, egg-laying, and raising young. Additionally, the presence of pollinators in urban ecosystems supports city gardens, trees, and vegetable patches.

In the Spotlight: Pollinators – Silent Heroes of the Ecosystem

The entire event in Wołomin was designed with some of the most underappreciated yet essential city dwellers in mind—pollinating insects. The flower meadow, a vital source of nectar and pollen, and the insect houses, which offer safe spaces for living, reproduction, and overwintering, were all created especially for them.

Without pollinators, we wouldn’t have blooming gardens, fruits, vegetables, or the biodiversity that supports ecosystem stability. Unfortunately, pollinator populations are declining rapidly—mainly due to habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. That’s why every action to support these vital insects matters—especially in urban environments where access to natural resources is limited.

Through their shared efforts, participants not only improved the living conditions for pollinators in Wołomin but also deepened their knowledge of these creatures’ roles and needs. It was a step toward a more conscious and sustainable coexistence between people and nature.

Together for Nature – Integration, Awareness, Positive Change

The Wołomin event also had a strong social aspect. Through teamwork, participants had the chance to connect, exchange experiences, and build relationships rooted in environmental care. It was also a moment for reflection—on how much depends on our daily choices, engagement, and sense of responsibility.

Such initiatives are excellent examples of how ecological actions can and should be part of professional life. They combine meaningful education with enjoyable, team-building activities—bringing benefits not only to nature but also to people.

Electrolux and One More Tree – Together for a Sustainable Future

Electrolux’s involvement in this initiative proves that environmental responsibility can become an integral part of corporate culture. Employees not only participated in the workshops but were actively involved in the preparations and fieldwork. This approach strengthens a sense of community and brings real results—for both the team and the environment.

The One More Tree Foundation has been implementing ecological education, biodiversity, and nature protection projects for years. Collaborating with business partners like Electrolux allows for the implementation of ambitious, well-planned actions that truly impact the world around us.

Thank You!

We sincerely thank everyone who took part in this event—for your enthusiasm, willingness to act, and the heart you put into every step of the project. Thanks to you, Wołomin has become a greener and more welcoming place, and the world—if only by a step—closer to harmony with nature.

It’s exactly these kinds of initiatives that show change starts with us. Small actions have great power—especially when we take them together. Together, we can achieve more!
