Planting over 600 trees and ecological workshops in Wojkowice with Stellantis on April 23, 2025
On April 23, 2025, Wojkowice experienced an incredibly inspiring day full of green initiatives, education, and cooperation with the local community. The event was organized by the One More Tree Foundation with the support of our strategic partner – Stellantis – in cooperation with the authorities of the city of Wojkowice. This is another initiative that shows how much good can be achieved by joining forces between business, local government, and non-governmental organizations.
Environmental education starts with the youngest
The first point on the agenda was a biodiversity workshop held at Primary School No. 1 in Wojkowice, Poland. Students took part in sessions led by representatives of the One More Tree Foundation. In an accessible and engaging way, children learned what biodiversity is, why it is so important for the future of our planet, and how each of us can contribute to its protection – even through simple actions like planting plants or protecting pollinators.
The children listened with great engagement, asked questions, and shared their own everyday observations. For many, it was their first hands-on encounter with ecological topics – we hope the workshops left a lasting impression!
Why is environmental education so important?
Environmental education is not just about transferring knowledge – it’s about building awareness and shaping attitudes. It teaches young people respect for nature, responsibility for their own actions, and shows that anyone – regardless of age – can impact the environment. Workshops like the ones held in Wojkowice develop empathy, teach cooperation, and encourage active participation in local community life. Thanks to them, children become “ecology ambassadors” in their homes, and change begins to spread.
Ginkgos – a green souvenir of the shared morning
After the inspiring workshops, it was time to take action. On the playground of Primary School No. 1 in Wojkowice, together with students and teachers, we planted young ginkgo trees – exceptional trees that not only decorate the space but also carry a deep symbolic message.
Ginkgo is one of the oldest plant species on Earth – its ancestors existed as far back as 270 million years ago! Often called a “living fossil,” it has survived millions of years virtually unchanged, and today impresses with its resilience and unique appearance. Its distinctive fan-shaped leaves, which turn a vibrant yellow in autumn, make it highly decorative and easy to recognize.
Ginkgos are also famous for their exceptional durability – they can grow in harsh urban conditions, are resistant to air pollution, diseases, and pests. Moreover, these trees were among the few to survive the atomic bombing of Hiroshima – some of them still grow there today, making ginkgos a symbol of resilience, rebirth, and hope.
That’s why we chose ginkgos as a green souvenir of this special morning. They will grow together with the students, reminding them daily of the importance of caring for nature and the power of the natural world. The trees planted on the school grounds are not just an aesthetic addition – they are a living ecology lesson that will last for generations to come!
600 seedlings for Wojkowice
The climax of the day was the grand tree planting in the heart of Wojkowice. This unique action could not have taken place without the support of our strategic partner – Stellantis. Stellantis was not only the strategic partner of the event but also an active participant. Company employees joined the field activities as volunteers, enthusiastically supporting our foundation and school youth in planting trees. Their presence and energy showed that business can truly support local communities, and working together on ecological initiatives is a great way to build relationships – with both nature and people.
Thanks to our combined efforts, we managed to plant as many as 600 tree seedlings that will eventually form a green enclave in the city center. We planted oaks, pines, elms, and cherry trees. This place will become not only more aesthetic but also more friendly for residents – perfect for relaxation, walks, and connecting with nature.
The involvement of Stellantis employees showed the great potential that lies in combining corporate responsibility with environmental action. It’s a true example of cooperation where every pair of hands mattered, and the shared work brought tangible results – not only in the form of new plantings but also in building bonds and a sense of community around the idea of nature protection.
Green initiatives – benefits for people and the planet
Actions like communal plantings bring real, long-term benefits. They increase green space, improve air quality, support biodiversity, and help counteract the urban heat island effect. What’s more, they foster resident integration and build a sense of community around important goals. Intergenerational initiatives like this one teach cooperation, responsibility, and offer satisfaction from working for the common good.
Cooperation that matters
Finally, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped green Wojkowice – the students and teachers of Primary School No. 1, city authorities, local councilors, residents, and especially Stellantis, the main partner of this event, without whom this initiative would not have been possible.
Wojkowice was the first stop in the educational-ecological program, which will run until early 2026. As part of it, 13 workshops and 7 field campaigns will be carried out – including tree planting, flower meadow sowing, and ecological education for children, youth, seniors, and people with disabilities across the Silesia region. Together with Stellantis, we aim not only to green urban spaces but also to foster lasting pro-environmental attitudes among the region’s residents.
Thanks to this collaboration, we can act on a larger scale, with a real impact on the environment and local communities. And this is just the beginning!
