Cleaning Up Sobieski Forest in Warsaw with Mercedes-Benz Leasing on May 9, 2025

On May 9, 2025, Sobieski Forest in Warsaw got a fresh burst of energy—literally. As part of a joint initiative between the One More Tree Foundation and Mercedes-Benz Leasing, a group of nearly thirty volunteers headed out to restore this remarkable natural area to its former glory. The result? Nine fully loaded garbage bags (each holding 260 liters) and dozens of other discarded items removed from the forest. It was a tangible, real-world action that showed how much of an impact a group of motivated people with a sense of responsibility can make.

This wasn’t just about picking up trash—it was an act of care driven by a shared commitment to the common good and a desire to create lasting positive change, step by step.

The Green Heart of Warsaw

Sobieski Forest, located in Warsaw’s Wawer district, is one of the city’s most ecologically valuable green spaces. It has long been a favorite destination for walks, jogs, and weekend outings. But it’s more than a recreational area—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem inhabited by hundreds of plant species, birds, and small mammals that rely on a clean, unpolluted environment to survive and thrive.

Every bit of neglect directly impacts the fragile balance of this natural habitat, which is why caring for it should be a shared responsibility—not just once in a while, but every day.

Unfortunately, like many urban green spaces, Sobieski Forest faces the persistent problem of littering. Abandoned bottles, plastic packaging, pieces of fabric, and household items have become an all-too-common sight, not only spoiling the landscape but also endangering wildlife. Animals can get tangled in trash, swallow it, or suffer injuries that threaten their health and survival.

That’s why every cleanup effort here matters—not just for appearance’s sake, but as a declaration of care for the voiceless creatures who live beside us.

Meaningful Collaboration

Employees of Mercedes-Benz Leasing showed that environmental awareness and social engagement can go hand in hand with business. Representatives from various departments—from admin to senior management—joined the event, proving that a shared goal can unite people regardless of their day-to-day roles. Together, they cleaned up the area, exchanged experiences, and formed new connections outside of the office setting.

These kinds of initiatives are not just ecological—they’re also opportunities for team-building and education, offering a different, hands-on perspective on environmental issues.

Among the most common waste were plastic and glass bottles, but volunteers also stumbled upon larger, surprising items that required teamwork and creativity to remove. Every full trash bag collected felt like a small victory—not only for nature but also for the people who chose to make a difference together.

This initiative is a great example of how simple actions can improve not just the environment, but also relationships among those who take part.

Ecology Is About Action, Not Theory

Participants quickly realized how powerful individual involvement in environmental matters can be. Working side by side in the forest opened their eyes to the scale of the littering problem and revealed just how much can be done through local, collective action. Big campaigns and complex strategies aren’t always necessary—sometimes, all it takes is a few hours outdoors and a willingness to get your hands dirty for a good cause.

This experience will stay with them for a long time. The reflections it sparked may lead to lasting changes in habits—both at home and at work.

As the event partner, Mercedes-Benz Leasing proved that environmental responsibility isn’t just about declarations. The company actively supports green initiatives, not only through funding but by encouraging hands-on involvement from its employees. It’s a prime example of responsible business in action—living out values, not just talking about them.

Together for the Future

For years, the One More Tree Foundation has been committed to environmental protection, biodiversity promotion, and ecological education. Tree planting, green space revitalization, workshops, and awareness campaigns are all part of our mission. Thanks to partnerships like the one with Mercedes-Benz Leasing, we can operate on a larger scale—with stronger impact and long-term effects.

It’s not just about single events—it’s about cultivating attitudes that influence everyday decisions and shape how communities and companies function.

Every piece of trash removed, every tree planted, every conversation about ecology is a step toward a better future. And every step matters—no matter how small.
