Creating forest worlds in glass – “Forest in a Jar” workshops in Bielsko-Biała
On July 23, 2025, we organized a unique ecological workshop titled “Forest in a Jar”, which took place in the welcoming space of the Senior Center in Bielsko-Biała. In a warm, friendly atmosphere, 12 participants – 11 women and 1 man – created their own miniature forests enclosed in glass containers.
The workshops were carried out as part of the “Green Pulse of Silesia” project, which we are implementing in cooperation with Stellantis.
A miniature forest – learning, relaxation and nature in one
“Forest in a Jar” is more than just a craft workshop – it’s a close encounter with nature on a micro scale. Participants learned the basics of creating a self-sustaining ecosystem, which can function for years without watering. Step by step, they discovered how to prepare the soil, plant greenery, arrange the layers, and create compositions that not only please the eye but also teach mindfulness and care for the environment.
Each participant left with their own jarred forest – 12 finished ecosystems that serve not only as aesthetic decorations but also as reminders of the beauty and fragility of nature.
Ecology made simple and accessible
One of our main goals was to show that ecology doesn’t have to be difficult or distant. “Forest in a Jar” workshops are a perfect example of how to talk about matter cycles, the role of light, water, and air in nature in an accessible way. Through hands-on experience, participants gained a deeper understanding of how nature works and what we can do to support it – even in our own homes.
A small jar can become a big lesson – about balance, life cycles, and the need to coexist with the world around us.
Intergenerational meetings with nature
The event at the Senior Center also had a unique social dimension. The workshop was an opportunity for conversation, integration, and sharing memories related to nature. Participants eagerly exchanged their gardening experiences, and the act of creating together fostered relationships and a sense of community.
We believe that ecological activities can be a source of joy, empowerment, and meaningful moments – regardless of age or experience.
Green Pulse of Silesia – local and heartfelt
The workshop in Bielsko-Biała is part of a broader initiative – the “Green Pulse of Silesia” project, which we are carrying out in collaboration with Stellantis. The goal of the project is to promote ecology among diverse social groups, especially in places where environmental awareness can grow through shared action, dialogue, and experience.
Thanks to initiatives like this, we demonstrate that environmental efforts can be beautiful, accessible, and lasting – just like a forest in a jar.
We thank all participants for their attentiveness, creativity, and commitment. It was an extraordinary journey into the heart of nature – enclosed in glass, but open to the world 💚
