Natural Soaps for Seniors — Eco-Workshops with One More Tree Foundation
Learning and Fun for Seniors
In today’s world, where everyday consumer choices have a huge impact on the environment, it is important to pay attention to the products we use daily. One such product is soap — a seemingly ordinary part of our routine that can have real consequences for the planet.
Inspired by this idea, Fundacja One More Tree, with the support of Stellantis, organized natural soap-making workshops for seniors. The event took place at the “Wrzos” Daily Social Welfare Home and aimed to raise environmental awareness among participants.
Seniors learned how commercial cosmetic products affect the environment, discovered alternatives to mass-produced chemical products, and gained practical skills that they can continue using at home. The workshops not only showed that eco-friendly choices can be simple and enjoyable, but also provided an opportunity for integration, creative fun, and fostering environmentally responsible attitudes in everyday life.
Why Natural Soaps?
Many commercial cosmetic products we use daily contain synthetic chemicals. While they often provide a pleasant scent or smooth skin, they can negatively affect both our health and the environment. Once rinsed off, these substances enter sewage systems and then surface waters, where they can harm aquatic and soil ecosystems.
Natural soaps are an eco-friendly and safe alternative. Made from plant-based oils and natural ingredients, they contain no harsh detergents, artificial colors, or microplastics. Their biodegradability ensures they do not burden the environment, while also being gentle on the skin — especially sensitive skin often found in older adults.
During the workshops, seniors learned the differences between conventional and natural products. They also discovered how small changes in everyday choices can contribute to protecting nature. Handmade soaps are not only an ecological solution but also a way to care for health and gain satisfaction from sustainable practices.
Workshop Step by Step
The workshops began with a short introduction, during which participants learned about the ingredients needed to make natural soap. Next came the hands-on part — each senior was able to mix oils, natural dyes, and fragrances to create unique soaps.
Instructors explained each step of the process, showing how simple and safe it can be to produce homemade cosmetics. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, experiment with scents and colors, and learn responsible ingredient management.
The atmosphere was warm and intimate. Many seniors noted that it was their first time attending such a workshop and were surprised at how easy and enjoyable it was to create something both practical and eco-friendly.
Seniors in the Spotlight
Our activities focus on strengthening local communities. Seniors from the “Wrzos” center played a key role in this event — they were not only participants but also active creators.
The workshops allowed them to discover new passions and feel empowered. Such activities are not only about environmental education but also about integration and activating older adults, which is vital for quality of life in this age group.
Everyday Ecology
Everyone has an impact on the environment — even through seemingly small choices, such as the soap we use. By changing shopping habits and choosing nature-friendly products, we can collectively reduce harmful substances entering the environment.

Partnership with Stellantis
These workshops would not have been possible without the support of Stellantis, our project partner. Collaboration between businesses and NGOs enables real, pro-ecological changes in local communities.
It is proof that environmental responsibility can unite different sectors and deliver tangible results. This partnership allowed us to bring practical environmental education directly to seniors and the wider community.
Project Impact and Future
The workshops demonstrated that ecological actions can be educational, practical, and socially engaging. Seniors not only learned new ways to care for the planet but also spent time in a creative atmosphere, leaving the sessions with concrete skills.
Fundacja One More Tree plans to continue similar initiatives in other centers. We aim to ensure that more people have access to practical ecological education and can actively change their surroundings.
