“Insect Hotel” Workshops in Jastrzębie-Zdrój on August 12, 2025 – Together for Biodiversity
On August 12, 2025, at the Occupational Therapy Workshops in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, a unique meeting with nature took place – the “Insect Hotel” workshops. Eight participants of the OTW joined forces to create four solid shelters for beneficial insects. The event was carried out as part of the “Green Pulse of Silesia” project in cooperation with Stellantis.
Education in practice – for people and for nature
The workshops were dedicated to OTW participants, serving both as occupational therapy and as an inspiring ecology lesson. They became an excellent opportunity to combine learning with action – participants learned about the importance of pollinating and predatory insects in the ecosystem, discovered their role in maintaining plant health, and explored ways to support them in urban and rural areas.
Under the guidance of the instructors, every step of building the hotels was discussed – from selecting the right materials, through design, to the proper placement of the finished structures. Thanks to this, the participants not only made the insect hotels but also gained knowledge on how to create more in the future on their own.
Four hotels – hundreds of new guests
The result of three hours of work was four diverse insect hotels that can provide shelter for red mason bees, ladybugs, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Each was designed to ensure a safe and comfortable place to live and reproduce for these small yet essential inhabitants of our environment.
Small actions – big change
Initiatives like this show that biodiversity conservation can start with simple steps. By building insect hotels, we support natural pollination processes, reduce the need for chemical treatments, and help maintain balance in nature.
Anyone with a garden, balcony, or a bit of green space can create their own small haven for insects. All it takes is a little willingness, a few natural materials, and the awareness that even the smallest hotel can have a huge impact.
Together for a greener Silesia
The “Green Pulse of Silesia” project is an example of how cooperation between different entities – including companies, institutions, and local communities – can have a real impact on improving the environment. Thanks to such actions, Silesia is becoming greener, and residents are gaining space for active and conscious contact with nature.
