Tree Planting with the One More Tree Foundation Team and the Local Community in Baranów | April 18, 2026
One More Tree Foundation is, above all, people – volunteers, local communities, event participants, as well as our wonderful coordinators and the whole foundation team who make it possible for us to meet in the field for every ecological action. In late April we had the chance to gather from different corners of Poland and do a lot of good together, and the first stop on that shared journey was tree planting in Baranów.
A special day – the whole One More Tree team in one place
On an ordinary day, our field actions are led by coordinators and volunteers scattered across Poland, which is exactly why Baranów felt so special to us. That day, the entire One More Tree Foundation team gathered in one place – people who usually work on projects from behind a desk, coordinate field actions, and plan the foundation’s future stood together, spades in hand. An opportunity like this rarely comes along, which made us feel all the more strongly just how strong the bond we already share every day really is. Working together in the mud and sun, joking around while planting the next tree, and helping each other with heavier seedlings only strengthened what was already there in our team – the feeling of being one crew with one mission, no matter what role each of us plays day to day.
A meeting of generations around a single tree
Planting in Baranów was more than just an ecological action – it became a genuine meeting of generations. Whole families came, along with children, teenagers, and older residents, who worked together, spades in hand, learning from one another. The youngest participants curiously asked how deep to plant the roots and why some trees grow faster than others, teenagers pitched in carrying seedlings and watering cans, and older residents happily shared memories of what the area looked like decades ago. Moments like these show best that ecology brings generations together rather than dividing them, and that shared physical work can build a bond faster than many conversations.
Tree planting in Baranów – side by side with the local community
In Baranów we met with local residents to plant trees together, trees that will grow there for years to come. The whole One More Tree team stood side by side with the local community, joining forces for one purpose – adding a little more greenery to this place. It was one of those moments that remind us why we do what we do – working together in the field, talking with residents, and getting our hands in the soil.
Species that went into the ground and into residents’ hands
For the event we prepared container-grown seedlings of many native tree species, carefully chosen to support local biodiversity. Hornbeam and linden went into the ground as species that form dense, hedge-like plantings – hornbeam tolerates pruning well and creates natural windbreaks, while linden, besides its beautiful scent when in bloom, is one of the best nectar-bearing plants, valuable for bees and other pollinators.
For residents to take home we also prepared pedunculate oak, a species that can live for several hundred years and provide a home for hundreds of insect species, Norway maple, prized for its fast growth and beautiful autumn colors, silver birch, one of the first species to colonize open ground and improve soil structure, rowan, whose red berries are an important winter food source for birds, and Scots pine and Norway spruce – hardy conifers that immediately enrich the landscape with year-round greenery. Some of the trees we planted together with residents that day, and some we handed over to them to plant on their own, so that everyone could take a piece of the event with them and plant their own tree in a place of their choosing.

Every planting action is, for us, more than numbers and statistics. It’s in moments like these that the true heart of One More Tree Foundation is built – a place where care for the environment meets care for people and the relationships between them. We believe that restoring greenery to cities and villages goes hand in hand with restoring a sense of community, and every meeting in the field, like the one in Baranów, reminds us that our mission doesn’t end with trees – it begins with the people who want to plant them together.
